At Palisis, we take great pride in our partnerships, and one such collaboration that stands out is with Mersey Ferries. This iconic service, beloved by locals and tourists alike, has recently introduced innovative self-service kiosks and Flexi Tickets, all powered by Palisis technology.
Mersey Ferries, part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s transport network, has always been committed to improving passenger convenience. The introduction of self-service kiosks at Seacombe and Pier Head Terminals marks a significant step forward. These kiosks allow passengers to purchase a range of tickets, including combined tickets for attractions like The Beatles Story Museum and sightseeing bus tours.
Councillor Liam Robinson, praised the initiative:
“The first phase of the new smart ticketing roll out at Mersey Ferries has gone exceptionally well with passengers quick to uptake and embrace the new service. It brings encouraging news for the next phase due to arrive on the trains later this year.”
Councillor Liam Robinson, Portfolio Holder of Transport for the Liverpool City Region
Introducing flexi tickets
In addition to the kiosks, Mersey Ferries has launched Flexi Tickets, which are particularly beneficial during peak commuting times. Passengers can now purchase six or ten crossings in advance without any time restrictions on their use. This flexible option, along with monthly and quarterly tickets, offers a cost-effective alternative to the standard single or return tickets, making it the cheapest way to cross the river during peak hours.
These innovations align with Mayor Steve Rotheram’s vision for a more affordable, user-friendly, and London-style transport system. The self-service kiosks and Flexi Tickets are part of a broader £13 million investment in public transport ticketing across the Liverpool City Region, including a future contactless tap-and-go system.
Positive impact
Since their implementation, the self-service kiosks have sold tickets worth more than £7,500, demonstrating their popularity and effectiveness. They provide a quick and efficient option for passengers who know what they need, while those requiring more information or concessions can still access assistance from customer service representatives at the terminals.
Marc Wieland, expressed his excitement about the partnership:
“We are delighted to welcome Mersey Ferries to the Palisis family. By leveraging our advanced technology and expertise, we aim to empower Mersey Ferries in delivering exceptional experiences to their passengers. Our mission is to provide efficient, user-friendly solutions that enable our clients to thrive in the dynamic tourism industry.”

Looking ahead
The success of this project is a testament to the positive impact of modern technology on traditional services. By enhancing ticketing options and streamlining the purchasing process, Mersey Ferries is setting a new standard for public transport in the region.
